A coach wears the hats of a teacher, mentor and leader. In the sports arena a coach has a team and in the business world, a coach is tasked with offering paid mentorship guidance through a goal oriented plan of action, to a small group or one individual, generally for a specific time frame. However, many professionals have a full time coach and many do so for years, just like Olympic athletes.
